Turscar Isle 0.8: Refactoring and hacking
I ran into a serious problem while working on a later segment. I couldn’t open the entire island level in Godot! So, I’ve refactored the main level and the tutorial so that they start with one sector, and the next one is only loaded when needed.
Unfortunately, this breaks saving and loading, so I’ve had to remove those. So, to help with replayability, some bot patrol patterns and some loot will be randomised.

Adding the Island to the demo
The demo previously held just the tutorial. Building on the above, I’ve added four sectors of the main island into the demo. You can scout out the sewers, stores and “intake centre”, with some loot and bits of lore to find all over the place.
The intake centre has lots of drains to hide in, so I’ve added flowing water with some particles and the Waterways .NET tool. And yes, running will be noisy! The stores has one locked keypad that isn’t available to the user - you’ll have to wait until I add the top spammers’ quarters to find that in the main game.
The demo also has its own, lower criteria for unlocking equipment, and they won’t carry over to the main game. At the time of writing, unlocking the Bandoliers in the demo requires you to steal 10 loot/spamcoins; in the main game, that’s currently set at 20. I haven’t nailed down the final values yet, but you should not have access to the overpowered silent running shoes right from the start!
HAAAAX!
Some loot now takes the form of servers you can hack into - or rather, walk up to them and use an unlocked terminal, because physical access trumps any sort of Hollywood UB3R-1337 nonsense. This takes time, and the longer you hold it, the more loot you steal. But you only get one shot, and if you step away, the terminal locks.
I may expand this later to allow hacking other things. Let me know what you think!
